In a rare tweet, Trump admits defeat.
Take a look at Trump’s Twitter feed this morning, and you will see a President who is clearly frustrated by his party’s inability to pass a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare — one of his top campaign promises.
Through the bill’s journey — from versions of in the House, to revisions in the Senate — Trump has continually said the GOP would prevail. He celebrated small wins in a grand way; House Republicans took a victory lap in the Rose Garden, for example.
Yesterday, gesturing at Vice President Mike Pence, Trump was upbeat: “We’re getting it together and it’s going to happen. Right, Mike?”
Today, his tone — and Twitter game- – changed: “We will return!” This is an acknowledgment of defeat, something that is rare for Trump . The whole tweet read:
“We were let down by all of the Democrats and a few Republicans. Most Republicans were loyal, terrific & worked really hard. We will return!”
Paul Ryan had a lot to say about this bill as well but his concerns stemmed from the fact that Obamacare may survive the GOP’s best efforts to destroy it:
“House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke briefly after the Senate’s version of the health care bill failing, pointing out that the House passed its bill to repeal and replace.”
