The New York Times dropped a series of bombshell reports exposing Donald Jr. for meeting with Kremlin-affiliated lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya during his father’s campaign.
Since his exposure, Donald Jr. has attempted to downplay the meeting as nothing more than a fruitless encounter concerning a Russian adoption program. He also appeared on Fox News to speak with Sean Hannity and admitted that he could have handled things better.
Stephanie Ruhle of MSNBC welcomed former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman on her show to discuss Donald Jr.’s scandal.
Akerman stated, “There’s lots of legal implications. First of all, we have a potential for actual treason. We have Donald Trump Jr., the ‘mini-me’ to the president, who is meeting with a Russian operative, thinking that he’s going to get information on the Hillary Clinton campaign.”
The strange part is Donald Jr. is taking all of the heat, while Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner – who both attended the meeting with Trump Jr. – have barely been mentioned.
Akerman explained, “Paul Manafort was brought to the dance by none other than Roger Stone, who in August of 2016 admitted that prior he had direct conversations with the Russian hacker and that he was aware of what WikiLeaks was doing. Then on top of all that, you’ve got Jared Kushner, who in June of 2016 — when this very meeting was going on — was put in charge of this whole data program for the Trump campaign.”
And here’s the real kicker as pointed out by Akerman: “On top of it all, Jared Kushner completely forgot about this meeting when he filled out his application for security clearance, which is totally unbelievable. So there is plenty of smoke here, and I think we’re getting close to the fire.”
