Otiko Djaba – minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has vowed to render Justice to the Ghanaian victim who was involved in the Marwako assault.

“Ghanaians should be rest assured that necessary measures are being put in place to address the issue” Hon. Otiko said.

A 25-year-old Ghanaian waitress who was allegedly assaulted by her Lebanese supervisor in Accra has been the talk of town since the ordeal.

On a Facebook post on Monday, the gender Minister said her ministry in collaboration with the appropriate security agencies is putting in place necessary measures to address the issue. “Justice will surely come to play” her page responded to comment on her post.

Jihad Thaabn, 26, a brother-in-law of the owner of Marwako Restaurant in Accra is reported to have dipped the face of Evelyn Boakye into blended pepper for working slowly on February, 26. He is said to have held the lady’s face in the pepper for more than 10 minutes while he squeezed her neck amidst abusive words.

This followed a call for boycott on social media, as Ghanaians made series of post to address the ordeal. Human right activists are also collecting signatories for an online petition calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to clamp down on foreign nationals who abuse Ghanaian employees.

The Alleged Marwako Story

Mr Chaaban was arrested by the Accra Police on March 4 and granted police inquiry bail pending further investigations.

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Afia Tenge, confirmed that the police received the complaint from the victim on February 28, 2017, and immediately arrested the assailant.

She said the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Nana Osaberima Oware Asare Pinkrong III, had since directed the Tesano District Police Command to parade the suspect before the command on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

The Honorable minister – Otiko Djaba has called upon Ghanaians to be patience as her ministry seeks to render Justice for Ms Evelyn.
