Republicans and Democrats have condemned a North Carolina GOP party director for a racially charged Twitter rant that attempts to demonize the Democratic Party and brings up the specter of “murdering” black people.

The episode began when the NC Democratic Party put out a tweet in celebration of the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act while also writing that “we must fight to keep moving forward.”

Dallas Woodhouse, executive director of the state’s GOP party, responded to the tweet by accusing the Democrats of “murdering blacks” while citing the 119-year-old Wilmington Race Riot as proof.

A local reporter asked Woodhouse why he was using a massacre that occurred in the 1800s to attack the modern-day North Carolina Democratic Party – similar to Republicans in 2017 getting blamed for Abraham Lincoln’s lack of adequate security.
