In a truly disturbing (and ironically, un-conservative) move, House Republican Jason Chaffetz planned to introduce a bill that would effectively eliminate President Obama’s well-earned pension and benefits.

USA Today reports that before leaving his office, Chaffetz had planned to reintroduce a bill that was vetoed by President Obama before he left office. The bill, called the Presidential Allowance Modernization Act, would have two main parts. The first would put a cap on presidential pensions at $200,000, while allowing another $200,000 for expenses. The second part would reduce the pension payments dollar for dollar for any income that exceeds $400,000.

Chaffetz’s move was in response to Obama earning a $400,000 pay-day for an upcoming speech.

Speaking about Obama and bill, Chaffetz said,”The Obama hypocrisy on this issue is revealing. His veto was very self-serving.”

USA Today explains Trump’s position:

Trump has not taken a position on the legislation. But during the campaign, he said he’d take a close look at pensions for elected officials — especially members of Congress.

“The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, OK?” he said at a town hall in 2015. “They get benefits that nobody else can even think about, OK. And they don’t like to talk about it. But we’ll work on that.”
