If this new move against Trump is successful, he may be forced to live behind bar for 15 years…
Trump made some very controversial statements earlier this week about the NFL players that are choosing to kneel in protest of the mistreatment of people of color.
“When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem – the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium,” Trump said. “I guarantee things will stop.”
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now. He is fired,’” Trump continued.
He also posted about the issue the next day.
“If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU’RE FIRED. Find something else to do!” Trump tweeted.
Liberalexaminer reported, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell responded to Trump’s baseless attacks, saying that Trump’s “divisive comments” show “an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.”
“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture,” Goodell stated. “There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month.”
But the head of the NFL isn’t the only one speaking out. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith and Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman have both stood against Trump’s comments.
For some, however, just speaking out isn’t enough.
What’s Happening Now:
Federal law makes it a crime for the President to attempt to influence the employment decisions of a private entity. Usually, it’s used to protect reporters that disagree with the president politically, but it is not limited to that application.
The Democratic Coalition has officially filed a criminal ethics complaint against President Trump for his disgusting comments.
Along with the formal complaint, they also released this statement:
“Whether or not you’d personally chose to ‘take a knee’ as a means of peaceful protest, we should all be united in defending the rights of every American – including NFL players – to freedom of expression,” stated Jon Cooper, Chairman of the Democratic Coalition. “Donald Trump crossed the line when he called for the firing of any NFL player who kneels during the national anthem. No president is exempt from the rule of law, and it’s about time the current occupant of the Oval Office realized that.”
Here is the relevant part of the federal law 18 USC 227 (a)2, which reads:
“Whoever, being a covered government person, with the intent to influence, solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation, an employment decision or employment practice of any private entity influences, or offers or threatens to influence, the official act of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than 15 years, or both, and may be disqualified from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.
In this section, the term “covered government person” means the President, Vice President, an employee of the United States Postal Service…”
But then again, Trump think’s he’s covered in Teflon, so he can get away with anything.
