Ghana Black Stars opened their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 1-0 win over the Cranes of Uganda.
Andre Ayew expertly converted from the spot in the 30th minute to give the Ghana Black Stars all three points.
The Black Stars began the game on a good note, creating chances but failed to convert them.
Andre Ayew who scored the only goal came close to getting the opener when he side footed a cross from his brother only for goalkeeper Dennis Onyango to grab.
Newcastle midfielder Christian Atsu was menacing on the right flank, giving problems to Uganda left back Joseph Ochaya. The diminutive winger nearly gave Ghana the opener when he dummied the left back and powered a shot which was saved by the goalkeeper of the Cranes.
Uganda then had some moments in the game with Farouk Miya’s shot gracing the right post in the African Cup of Nations‘ opener for their group.
The Black Stars became more cautious in the second half allowing the Cranes play more in the second period.However, it couldn’t count for nothing as the stars ended the game with the advantage as the match ended 1 nil in favor of the Ghana Black Stars.
